Brian’s Threaded Comments 1.5.17

Hot on the heels of 1.5.15, a batch of fixes was implemented thanks to NSpeak's prodding.
They are mainly the fixes and some of the enhancements mentioned in NSpeaks blog article on how to hack my plugin, and an article he referred to on howtospoter.com about fixing the plugin also.
As always, the latest version can be found at the google project page, or for the lazy people, here's a direct link to 1.5.17:
Thanks Brian for giving the credit to my little contribution to your work. One more suggestion. I was goingto add this code to the file I shared on my blog but perhaps will be better if you release it.
This adds support for 2.5 Gravatars and optional MyAvatars for other versions:
Thanks for doing the needful. Glad you are back.
Well, I was unable to insert code … lets try again:
OK, Brian,
I'm unable to add it, please meial me if interestd to include it into your file …
Alex
Done :)
Hi Brian,
I'm new to your plugin and just download it. I can't seem to make it properly. Do you have some recommendation settings? Or if this release is not a fixed release, could you recommend on a working version?
In briansthreadedcomments.php, try changing this line:
//checkDocumentIntegrity();
to this:
checkDocumentIntegrity();
and then posting a comment. It should tell you if something is wrong with your document structure. If you don't know what to do with this info, please get someone else to help you.
Hi Brian,
I have modified the plugin code as your instruction and tried commenting on my own, but still don't find any error as you mentioned above.
Is there any probability that this plugin isn't compatible with other wordpress comment related plugin? Btw, I use DoFollow and CommentLuv.
Ditto,
I use both of the plugins you mention or did at one point. I have actually replaced Do Follow with LuciaLinkyLove plugin as it provides more configuration options but also use them in combination with CommentLuv and BTC.
All work beautifully. I think you need to look at your theme. From what I have seen before – the issue more then likely there and not the plugins. Try to activate WP default theme and see if your plugins begin to work … just remember to replace comments.php file from BTC plugin in your default theme..
Alex
Ditto, I think there is a very good chance that there are a bunch of plugins that BTC doesn't work with, given that it replaces the comments.php file.
Unfortunately, there isn't much else to do about this than hope someone fixes it or that I have a sudden attack of altruism and fix it, but I wouldn't hold my breath for the latter, as I would rather spend my time on forward development than ensuring compatibility with a billion different plugins.
I hope this is somewhat understandable.
My hope is to make a new version of BTC in the future that doesnt replace comments.php and instead uses ajax to accomplish the threading, but that is a way off still.
Hi, Brian
I just want to ask:
Why the link of author in the coment not work in my site?
Please help me
Hi Brian,
I found you through Caroline but she apparently points to an old version…I have since been all over this blog and am quite confused lol.
Can you please point me to the VERY LATEST VERSION, and possibly point out what other comment style plugins it may or may not work well with.
Thanks so much. :)
Hi there,
Plugin works like a charm, but.. is there someway i can change the size of the gravatar?!
// Thomas
Sry.. posted this in the wrong thread..
Should be in the 1.5.18 thread..
I've installed the plug-in, and I'm able to respond to specific comments via the admin panel—however, the comments do not appear "nested" on the page. Instead my replies appear at the bottom of the list of comments. I switched to the default theme, and they are not nested there either.
Is there an option I need to set to specifically tell the comments to appear nested?
Thanks.
Try using the comments.php that came with the package.
