Brians Latest Comments 1.5

Brians Latest Comments have been updated to use less clever, but more compatible database code and should now work on a much higher number of blogs without problems.

The version number has been updated to 1.5 to follow wordpress.

If any of you have had problems, give the new version a try.

Download brians latest comments.

I've closed the comments and urge you to use the forums instead.

I'm trying to use brians latest comments, but when I call the function on my page, it looks like it works, however, every post points at the same post, #428. Can you please tell me what might be causing this issue? TIA

Hi,

Thanks for your great plugin. I've tried it, everything seems fine except that all the links point to the same post. Just couldn't figure out what's wrong here … Please help.

I modified the plugin so it uses only two database queries. The rest is done by manipulating arrays. You can drop me an email (low at loweblog dot com) if you're interested in the code (posting it here is perhaps a bit lengthy)...

I keep getting the following error:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/kcom/public_html/main/wp-content/plugins/brianslatestcomments.php on line 37

the foreach it's talking about is

foreach($posts as $post)

why would that cause an error?

I'd love to try this thing out, but whatever source I dl this plugin from, it does not appear in my plugin-administrator. Any idea of possible causes, hopefully?

Thanks very much!
david

Just found a minor bug. The number of comments for a post might be shown as larger than the actual number of approved comments. The bug is on line 54 where you find the number of comments for an entry.

You should append AND comment_approved = '1' to the end of the SQL statement.

Just wanted to let you know.

OK, so I uploaded it to my plugins directory, and I activated it, and I still don't actually see anything about the latest comments when I view my blog. Is there some template I need to modify to reference the plugin? If so, which one? Is there some documentation on how to install the plugin (since apparently uploading and activating it isn't all there is to it)? Do I need a different plugin? I'm at the latest version of Wordpress, and I just want some sort of sidebar display of who has commented recently.

You just have to take a look at the instructions for the original post about latest comments – I should probably have mentioned that somewhere :)

I have Dunstan’s Time Since plugin installed, however, your Latest Comments plugin is putting in "Posted 35 Years, 6 Months Ago" in the title of the links? Any idea why? I think there was a new version of Time Since released recently.

Is there a way to include comments that are posted to pages? At the moment the comments seem to come only from the blog posts.

Not yet, but I will include it in the next version.
